Washington Metro Objectivism Discussion (WMOD) March 17, 1999 "Smartz St. Patrick's Day Party" Hosted by Jack Wheeler The March WMOD meeting date falls on St. Patrick's Day and Jack Wheeler has offered to host a party for us at his home. Food and drink will be provided by Jack and WMOD, but contributions of food or beverages are welcomed. If you plan to bring something, let us know when you RSVP so we can adjust the amount we provide accordingly. Jack's latest venture is a new drink called "Smartz" and you can find all about it at the party. Due to space limitations there is a maximum of 50 at the party, and we will have to limit RSVPs. So RSVP early to avoid a problem. If Objectivism needed a patron saint, the historical 4th century St. Patrick has some strong arguments in his favor. According to Thomas Cahill, author of "How the Irish Saved Civilization", St. Patrick rejected the "sad meditations on human sinfulness that were the favorites of the fathers of the Church, and instead he concentrated on the goodness of creation....early Irish Christianity was extremely celebratory of the world, of the earth, of matter, of human experience, and of the human body." According to the Washington Post 3/10/99 article on St. Patrick, one of his written works was a "strong condemnation of slavery. His was the lone voice on that abomination for many centuries." February WMOD Meeting Thanks again to Tom Bethell for his February 17 talk on his new book "The Noblest Triumph: Property and Prosperity Through the Ages" which argues that property rights are the key to understanding history. The attendance was about 35, and discussion continued until the restaurant closed. When and Where is the WMOD Meeting?
