Washington Metro Objectivism Discussion (WMOD) May 16, 1995 Meeting How Government Funding Politicizes Science: The Case of HIV The Tuesday May 16 meeting of WMOD will feature a talk by controversial author Brian Ellison. Ellison argues that government control over the funding of scientific research distorts that research and therefore has adverse consequences. He gives several examples from history, with the most recent one being the rejection of alternatives to the hypothesis that HIV causes AIDS. Bryan Ellison is a Phd candidate in molecular and cell biology at UC Berkeley and has written for publications as diverse as Cancer Research, Carcinogenesis, Policy Review, and Spin. He and Dr. Duesberg co-wrote the 1994 book, Why We Will Never Win the War on AIDS (Inside Story Communications). Ellison has also appeared on Nightline and other radio and television news programs.
